Treetopia shows you simple ideas on how to personalize the style of your kitchen
The kitchen is one of the most important parts of the home, whether you are a culinary genius or not. As you inject your personality into your home’s interior design, make sure you don’t neglect to make your kitchen more appealing as it is functional. Here are a few things you may want to consider when decorating your kitchen:
Working on the Basics
If you’re feeling a bit cramped in your kitchen, you might need to rearrange the fixtures in the area or get more space-saving ones. Draft a blueprint with the fixtures in the kitchen scaled down to determine if your new space can accommodate all the changes you want. Mount overhead cabinets for your cooking pots and pans or a stylish credenza to display your China wares. A simple floor to ceiling cabinet that would store not only your grocery items and cooking wares but small appliances as well is another good idea if you want a bare kitchen look.
Since the kitchen is an important work area, you have to keep in mind that it must always be well lighted. Of course, it is ideal to have a kitchen where natural light is abundant; however, you must also plan how you’d like to illuminate the room. You can opt for a stylish chandelier or recessed lighting, and you can also add under cabinet lighting to make your kitchen shine (literally!). If you want to lessen the number of lights functioning all at once, simply paint your kitchen in light colors. This way, it’s also quicker for you to see dirt and other stray items that may end up in your dinner.
Personalizing the Design
Now that your kitchen has ample space and is well-lit, it’s time to inject some personality into the room. Here’s what you need to do so:
Does your kitchen seem plain or have you outgrown its current style? You can always paint over the walls using your favorite colors. And since it’s your kitchen, you can paint it however you want. If you want something simple, you can paint the walls using one color. You can also go the monochromatic approach by alternating two colors on all the walls. Want a rainbow wall? Now is the time to actually do that! Would you like to make people hungry whenever they’re in your kitchen? Color psychology says the colors red and orange tend to make people want to eat.
Food is one of the most fun themes for décor, and what could be a more appropriate theme in the kitchen than food! Unique silverware collected from your travels can be used as décor for the walls. How about a fruit cornucopia as a centerpiece for your kitchen island? You can even display still life paintings of fruit baskets if that’s your thing. Another good décor idea would be to line up the walls with framed or laminated copies of your favorite recipes.
If you haven’t decided on a color or can’t think of what to decorate your kitchen with, how about thinking up of a theme? Lay-out and decorate your kitchen like a 1950’s diner or a Victorian castle’s dining room. Choose a Hollywood theme and decorate with posters of your favorite films. You can even bring out your inner illustrator by drawing and painting cartoon-y characters on the walls. After all, it’s your kitchen and you can do whatever you want to do to it.
