Fast and Simple Spring Cleaning Shortcuts

Posted by Treetopia in Home Decorating with Treetopia

Spring cleaning is essential to keeping your home looking fresh and fabulous. However, finding the time for a massive clean-up can often be difficult. Don’t let your busy schedule keep you from maintaining a clean and organized home. Here are a few spring cleaning tips and ideas on how to spruce up your home in no time.

1. Get Ready

Preparation is the key to easy and efficient spring cleaning. Before you begin cleaning, keep these suggestions in mind.

Focus on one room at a time. The sense of accomplishment you get from finishing one room will inspire you to keep on going. Try starting in low-traffic areas, like the dining or living room, which are relatively easier to clean.

Always work from the top down. Dust and dirt will inevitably settle on the floor as you clean your ceiling fixtures, table tops, and furniture, so it’s a good idea to save vacuuming and mopping for last.

Prepare your supplies. Go to each room, visualize all the tasks to be completed, and make a list of the materials and tools you’ll need. Invest in multi-purpose cleaning supplies like microfiber cloths and mops, non-abrasive cleaners, baking soda, and a vacuum with extra attachments.

2. Get Organized

A squeaky clean house still looks unappealing if it’s littered with clutter. Organizing the items in your home makes cleaning easier and also helps make room for new home decorating ideas.

A good way to tidy up clutter is to find four large boxes and designate them “Trash”, “Sell”, Donate” or “Storage”. Go from room to room and inspect the items you find. Assess the usefulness of each item, think about whether they’re worth keeping, and then place each piece in the corresponding container.

3. Get Cleaning

Save precious time and effort by adding these helpful tips and tricks to your usual cleaning routine.

Curtains – Taking down curtains, cleaning them in the washing machine, and hanging them outside to dry is a lot of work. Instead, take a rented steam cleaner and work your way from the bottom to the top of your hanging curtains. For thin and moderately-thick curtains, steaming the front side is enough to get them clean.

Carpets and rugs – Determine which areas have the highest foot traffic, like entryways and natural pathways. Run your vacuum on problem spots for about 30 seconds to totally get rid of dirt.

For area rugs, there’s no need to lift furniture out of the way. Simply vacuum the top of the rug, and then fold back the corners to clean the underside.

Bathrooms – Denture tablets can do wonders for porcelain fixtures, especially the toilet. Just drop a tablet into the bowl and let the effervescent cleaning agents work on the stains. After about 20 minutes, just flush and you’re done.

Windows – Dirt and grime accumulate mostly on the outside of window panes. Skip the inner side and the detail work and you’ll find that your cleaning time is reduced by half. Sunlight can leave streaks on your windows, so make sure to clean them during an overcast day.
