Yummm I can almost smell the carnitas in the slow cooker and the tres leches cake in the oven. That can only mean one thing in my house, Christmas is almost here. Each year for Christmas my family makes a Tex Mex feast. It all started because of some Christmas plates I bought featuring Santa on a burro surrounded by piñatas. From there our Christmas tradition was born. This year with the help of Treetopia I took our theme a step further with a Feliz Navidid tree! Want to win a $100 Treetopia gift card toward your own tree in our White Tree Mystery Giveaway? Read on and I’ll tell you how.
Never one to leave anything plain and white I added tons of color to my tree, even colored lights! The white tree acts as a perfect background when festive colors are your inspiration. From the top to the bottom this tree represents our family tradition. Instead of a tree skirt I used a real vintage souvenir skirt from Mexico, and wrapped the base in a thrifted blanket endowed with giant pompoms. Every Christmas tree needs a good foundation and this was perfect! Now onto the real fun part.
Once the foundation for my tree was laid it was time to decorate. I like to start with the top of the tree and let that be my guide for everything else. This tree begged for faux cactus and mini piñatas. Both can be found at any craft store. How to decorate my tree was obvious now that the skirt and topper had been set up. Tinsel, colored lights, shiny piñata shaped ornaments and more. I also wanted to reflect the paper in the piñata so I cut apart a colorful paper honeycomb party banner and used it as a tree decoration.
I can’t wait to show my Feliz Navidad tree off at Christmas to my guests! How would you decorate your white tree? If you can…
