Tips and tricks on how to transform your space into your dream room
Have you ever been inspired enough by a certain design that you had the urge to just get up and redecorate your home? The good news is that you can infuse your style into your home’s overall appeal just like a true professional. Here are some things that pros consider when designing home interiors:
Measure Your Space
The first thing that anyone who plans to redesign or redecorate his or her home must do is to assess the size of a room. If it helps, draw a layout or floor plan for each room and determine what furniture and décor will go into each space. With proper planning and a visual representation of your final design, it will be easier for you to put things together.
Make a List
When you go out shopping or you just happen to spot an item that you want for your dream home, list it down. If possible, take a photo of it. Don’t purchase anything yet since the vision does not usually match reality. Wait until your room has been painted or redesigned before purchasing anything new for it.
Determine the Size
Before placing your preferred furniture in the room, determine first if the furniture size is proportional to the room size. Always remember to leave an appropriate amount of floor area so that you and your guests can walk around comfortably. Avoid adding large furniture in a small room and small furniture in a huge room.
Color it Your Way
Determine what color you would like your walls to have. Bright and light colors give an illusion that the room is larger while dark colors tend to make rooms seem small. As a rule of thumb, purchase a color one or two shades lighter than the one you really want since it would look different when it’s already painted on the walls. Another tip is to paint small sections of the wall and observe how the shade is affected by the light.
Brighten Up the Room
Lighting is important in any room and it is one of the things that you must keep in mind when decorating. Allowing as much natural light as possible to enter your home, especially in work areas, is a good start. However, if you prefer artificial lighting, make sure that the design of the light fixture is complementary to the overall style of your space. Choose a lighting piece that brings out the beauty of each room.
Now that the room has been measured, the furniture in the room is proportionate, the walls are colored to perfection, and your lighting is perfect, go over your list again and determine the items there that match your room’s new look. Remember to only check the list after everything is done to prevent extra expenses and clutter. Do you still want to make your room look larger? Simply accessorize with a lovely framed mirror.
