As part of National Beer Day on April 7, here are awesome ways to make use of beer other than drinking

alcohol-2101_640 According to history, beer is the oldest drink enjoyed by civilization and may even be as old as civilization itself. Beer’s history can be traced in history and literature, and the oldest proven record of beer is between 4,000 to 6,000 years ago in the poem to honor Ninkasi, the Sumerian goddess of brewing. However, as humans evolved, so did beer and its uses. Here are some awesome ways to use beer today:

Bake It With Cake and Eat It Too!

Nowadays, there are recipes for almost everything that can be ingested by the human body. One of the fantastic creations of the beer-loving culture is the beer bread. Making beer bread isn’t as difficult as you’d imagine. You will need the following to get started with this classic beer bread recipe shared by Bridget from Bake at 350:

Get ready to upscale your home without breaking the bank

Springtime has always been a time of cleaning up whatever is already in your home to make it more presentable. Instead of just cleaning up this spring, wouldn’t it be more fantastic if you can redesign and upscale your home’s design?

In truth, you don’t have to spend so much to upscale your home and give it the style you want it to reflect. All you need is to get your imagination running to figure out the best way to create visual layers to make your décor more eye-catching.

Obvious Visuals

Just as we said in our Awesome Ideas for Color Therapy Month post a few weeks ago, colors have an effect on people. Use this knowledge to your advantage by using various shades to create visual layers. Find printed fabrics and create a pattern-on-pattern theme. Create a dramatic flair with hues and play with dark colors on a light-colored background. Channel your creativity to keep your home from looking like a big, flat monochromatic surface.

Details and Accessories

Upscaling isn’t limited to upsized items. One of the most important things to consider is how to work out the little details. Add some embroidery or a nice trim on your throw pillows, change old knobs and switches, or scout for accessories in shops. While it sounds a bit ironic, making sure that the minor details blend perfectly well with the overall design is a major part of upscaling. You don’t even have to spend much because many thrift stores carry awesome items that may possibly be perfect for your home at very cheap prices. Heather Noonan-Sheeks listed down several reasons why she loves thrift shopping in her Chic Sheeks Design & Décor blog.

Refurbishing

Upscaling doesn’t necessarily refer to bought or new items. One way to achieve a perfectly upscaled look in your home is to refurbish old furniture to blend with your new style. Your old desk or bedside table can be repainted white, black, or any color that will aid in giving visual layers to your rooms. It doesn’t even have to be a complete change because you may opt to just varnish your old furniture to give it a glorious shine and make it look new. Give your pre-loved items more love through a makeover instead of throwing them out.

By upscaling your home using your creativity and available resources instead of maxing out your credit card(s), you show not only how smart, chic, and stylish you are, but also that you are one financially savvy person that your friends can look up to.

Make your spring cleaning mission a breeze with these easy steps

Spring cleaning should neither take up so much of your time nor create a huge expense. Here are some quick tips on how to make the “burden” of spring cleaning light for you and your pockets:

Plan

Create a plan on how you will go about cleaning your home. The best way to do this, whether you live in a building or you own a nice house, is to follow a cross pattern: top to bottom and inside to outside. This way, the areas you’ve already cleaned will not get dirty again. Just imagine how much more time and effort you’ll save if you start cleaning further in, slowly but surely pushing the dust and dirt outside to be collected all at the same time.

Jazz up your home and control your mood swings using the psychology of color

Have you ever wondered why it’s popular to wear blue during a job interview or why cheerful people are said to have a “sunny disposition?” Perhaps you’re also wondering why looking out into the turquoise sea water tends to make you think, reminisce, or reflect.

Whether you believe it or not, all these colors and more have a certain emotional and psychological effect on us all. Treetopia gives you a glimpse of what some of the more popular colors trigger with special focus on 2013’s Color of the Year: green.

Have your fill of delectable dishes without the guilt

Every year for 40 days, Christians undertake a dietary resolution in preparation for Easter. This diet consists of fasting, abstinence, and a healthy dose of prayer and meditation. Regardless of religion (or lack of it), however, people have chosen to carry out Lenten diets with hope of achieving weight loss. Whether you adhere to this belief or not, Treetopia has some food suggestions for every meal that are not only scrumptious and filling, but also acceptable for Lent.

Breakfast/Dessert

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so they say. Sure, you can quickly whip up a bowl of oatmeal or an omelet but your taste buds wouldn’t feel too excited about those after a while and, since it’s Lent, you can’t reach for those packs of ham or bacon in the freezer. Instead of going astray, whip up a batch of couscous pudding. This versatile little dish can be served as a breakfast and/or dessert, depending on your mood, and it’s healthy to boot! We found Dena’s Oh! You Cook! blog with instructions on how to make this very simple dish. You will need the following basic ingredients:

  • 2  cups almond milk (plain or vanilla)
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3/4 cup plain or whole wheat couscous
  • 1/3 cup raisins
