Michael: While there are certain guidelines you can follow to create a cohesive and well-designed space, I think it’s important to use what you love when decorating your home. At end of the day, you have to live in your space, so you might as well use what brings you joy.

Jennifer: Whether you are decorating your house or for the holidays I always encourage people to go with their gut. If you love something (a purple Christmas tree or a crazy painting), go for it. You are the one that is going to have to live with it. Who cares what the trends are and what is on the pages of this month’s magazine? Go with what makes you smile and your heart go pitter patter and you can’t go wrong.

TT: Best decorating advice you want to share with your readers?

Kara: Just try it! I find so many people that are afraid to take the first step and try out their ideas. I can usually come up with some idea that I think will look good, but it really takes trying it out and seeing it in person to really know if it works. And once you have tried it, you are better apt to know what to tweak to make it just perfect.
