Get your home summer-ready with these tips and tricks to give your home that awesome summer atmosphere

Summer is fast approaching but if you still haven’t decided whether to just brighten up your home or create an artistic and imaginative living space, you may want to consider channeling your creativity and matching your home décor with the season. Here are some summer home décor ideas to bring out that wonderful summer vibe.

Repaint it
As always, repainting the walls and/or ceiling of your home is a valid option. If you choose to repaint your walls, choose cool, vibrant colors to reflect summer joie de vivre. Blue hues, especially light ones, conjure images of clear blue skies reflected upon vast oceans and seas. Bright yellows and greens bring with them the image of the Earth’s flora at its peak. Close your eyes and imagine your favorite summer activity and think of the color it resembles most so you can apply it to your home.

Keep your eyes sharp and clear through simple adjustments with your home décor

Home décor shouldn’t just be aesthetically pleasing and comfortable; it should be easy on the eyes as well. Since May is Healthy Vision Month, Treetopia has gathered some tips and tricks on how to brighten up your home to reduce strain on your eyes.

Organize!

It seems simple enough but what exactly does organizing have to do with clear eyesight? Well, the answer is also simple. The more clutter you have lying around the house, the more dust and dirt gather in your home. While dust and dirt don’t actually blind people, a heavy accumulation could irritate your eyes and may cause infection that can lead to worse things.

Rekindle your youthful spirit with fantabulous home décor

You might be working full time in that high-end office building or immersing yourself in more mature culture, but that doesn’t mean you must set aside what inspired or amused you in your youth.  If there’s one place where you can take a break from facing serious matters and feeling old every day, it would be your home.  Come check out these awesome ideas on how to revive the energy and creativity of your youth.

Bought or Made

As with anything worthwhile, remodeling or redecorating takes time. Exactly how much time you need to set aside for your home improvement project depends largely on whether you prefer to purchase the décor or make it yourself. If it’s the former, it won’t take up so much time because you only need to install hooks or nails where you would attach art or clean up a bit to allocate space for the décor. However, if you choose to make your own because you can’t find one that matches what you want, plan ahead and set aside enough time to implement your plans.

Make your living space comfortable for everyone, including your pets. Treetopia shows you how

Your living space should be home to everyone living in it, including your most beloved pets. Since it’s both National Decorating Month and Pet Month this April, Treetopia has gathered a few tips and tricks on how to redecorate your space and make the most out of it while still keeping your pets in mind. Here are a few of the awesome ideas:

Cover with Easy-to-Clean Fabric

Pets, especially dogs, are quite active and playful and can make quite a mess that would leave stains all over your furniture. Instead of going crazy with laundry or trying out various chemicals for stain removal, choose materials that are easy to clean for your own convenience. Using leather or tight-weave fabrics, such as denim or microfiber, to cover your furniture is a good choice. If you want to level up the protection of your furniture, you can also use Crypton fabric. This textile was conceptualized with pets in mind and was specially designed to be stain-, water-, and bacteria-resistant.

Slip and Slide

Speaking of mess, floors have witnessed and experienced perhaps the greatest number of accidents. If you want to catch a break, use flooring that you can tidy up with just one or two wipes. Marble, tile, or hardwood floors are great choices for pet owners. However, if you really believe that having a carpet is a must, then opt for a cut pile carpet since loop pile ones are hard to clean when your playful furry friends aren’t in their best behavior.

Incorporate the Space

It’s no secret that your pets want to hang out with you most of the time. Bring them closer to your workspace by giving them their own area near you. Do you tend to spend hours in the kitchen? Let one of your unused cabinets be their nap area. Do you sit in front of the computer most of the time? Tie a sling under your chair which your cat can use as a hammock. Do you spend your entire day in the garage or garden? Give your pets their own play-and-rest area where they can stay and amuse themselves as you keep working. That way, you get to spend time with your pets while also accomplishing your daily tasks.

Improvise!

Would you like to spoil your pet but have other expenses to use your money for? Then it’s time to improvise! If you’re thinking of buying a nice bed for your dog, search your cabinets first. You may be able to find a broken suitcase that is the perfect size for your pet. You only need half of the suitcase and a comfortable blanket or pillow inside it to make it a comfortable sort-of-new dog or cat bed!

Having pets around are supposed to be calming and not a source of stress. By having an efficiently designed place where your pet’s space complements yours, you won’t only have a stylish home, you’ll also have a best friend to share the space with.

If you can’t find the perfect spring wreath to decorate with, here are some gorgeous ideas to try out

The changing of seasons brings forth new styles and fashion both in clothing trends and in home décor. However, we’re not always lucky enough to find one style that fits our preferences perfectly. If you can’t seem to find a spring wreath that will complement the design of your home, why not try making your own? Here are some ideas to get you started:

Fantastic Blooms

If there is one thing that makes spring more alive, it’s the presence of blooming flowers everywhere. Wouldn’t it be just divine if you can display all the beautiful blooming flowers as a wreath in your home? To do this, prepare scissors, hot glue, a few bouquets of your favorite flowers, and a wreath base that is preferably made of twigs. First, separate the stems and remove the leaves. Next, begin inserting the stems between the twigs and secure them in place using hot glue. Do this until the entire base is covered with flowers. Finish your wreath by inserting some of the leaves as added accents. You can also check out the Copy Cat Looks blog for detailed instructions on how to create a gorgeous spring wreath made of tulips.

Recycled Wreath

Have you ever looked around your home and think you have too much used paper just about everywhere? Here’s great news for you: you can recycle all those paper and turn it into a wonderful wreath! If you are gifted in the art of paper folding, also known as Origami, put your skills to good use by folding up a variety of paper flowers to be placed on your wreaths. Wrap your wreath base with colored ribbon and use hot glue to secure the paper flowers in place. If you don’t know how to turn colored paper into something other than a crumpled ball, take a look at these instructions from Jen of tatertots & jello as she shows everyone how to make use of those sheets of paper by turning it into lovely Spring Paper Wreaths.

Ribbons Galore

During Christmas, we sometimes receive gifts with lovely wrappings and fancy ribbons, which are just too cute to throw away. Make use of these ribbons in your next wreath project. All you need are a circular base, scissors, hot glue, and your collection of ribbons. First, wrap the circular base with the thickest ribbon you have until the entire thing is covered. Next, use your imagination to strategize how you want your ribbon wreath to turn out. Apply hot glue on the area where you want your ribbons and carefully place them on that spot. Make sure everything is securely in place before hanging the finished wreath.

Fun and Fabulous

If you want to make a wilder or fluffier wreath, using feathers is definitely a good option! There are two ways to go about this. If you want something more challenging, you can use a bag of feathers, and manually and strategically glue them onto the circular base. Next, use hot glue to securely place some small eggs around your wreath. You can check out the detailed instructions on how to make this Easter Egg & Feather Wreath on Heather Bea’s Fake it Frugal blog. For those who want an easier time, you can use a feather boa instead of a bag of feathers. Just wrap the entire wreath base with the boa. After that, simply add bits and pieces and secure them in place using hot glue. Manuela’s A Cultivated Nest blog breaks down the steps on how to efficiently design your spring wreath using a feather boa.

Get ready to upscale your home without breaking the bank

Springtime has always been a time of cleaning up whatever is already in your home to make it more presentable. Instead of just cleaning up this spring, wouldn’t it be more fantastic if you can redesign and upscale your home’s design?

In truth, you don’t have to spend so much to upscale your home and give it the style you want it to reflect. All you need is to get your imagination running to figure out the best way to create visual layers to make your décor more eye-catching.

Obvious Visuals

Just as we said in our Awesome Ideas for Color Therapy Month post a few weeks ago, colors have an effect on people. Use this knowledge to your advantage by using various shades to create visual layers. Find printed fabrics and create a pattern-on-pattern theme. Create a dramatic flair with hues and play with dark colors on a light-colored background. Channel your creativity to keep your home from looking like a big, flat monochromatic surface.

Details and Accessories

Upscaling isn’t limited to upsized items. One of the most important things to consider is how to work out the little details. Add some embroidery or a nice trim on your throw pillows, change old knobs and switches, or scout for accessories in shops. While it sounds a bit ironic, making sure that the minor details blend perfectly well with the overall design is a major part of upscaling. You don’t even have to spend much because many thrift stores carry awesome items that may possibly be perfect for your home at very cheap prices. Heather Noonan-Sheeks listed down several reasons why she loves thrift shopping in her Chic Sheeks Design & Décor blog.

Refurbishing

Upscaling doesn’t necessarily refer to bought or new items. One way to achieve a perfectly upscaled look in your home is to refurbish old furniture to blend with your new style. Your old desk or bedside table can be repainted white, black, or any color that will aid in giving visual layers to your rooms. It doesn’t even have to be a complete change because you may opt to just varnish your old furniture to give it a glorious shine and make it look new. Give your pre-loved items more love through a makeover instead of throwing them out.

By upscaling your home using your creativity and available resources instead of maxing out your credit card(s), you show not only how smart, chic, and stylish you are, but also that you are one financially savvy person that your friends can look up to.
