Today is a day we should celebrate with cheer, for today we celebrate Dr. Seuss, that dear

On March 2 of every year, we celebrate the birth of one of the most prominent icons of children’s literature. Theodor Seuss Geisel, more popularly known as Dr. Seuss, challenged everyone to expand the borders of the imagination and, while people may think that the lessons in his books are only for children, they are really universal.

Whether you believe us or not about the universality of Dr. Seuss’ works, we urge you to read on as Treetopia takes you on a journey through some well-loved Dr. Seuss works and shows you how to apply them in the design of your home.

Food, Glorious Food!

Mardis Gras is not the English translation of “Fat Tuesday” for nothing. Since this day of celebration is held before Lent and fasting begin, it’s only natural to gorge on glorious food. So if you really want a carnival-inspired celebration, it is a must for your party to be filled (if not overflowing) with food. You can start off with a simple appetizer like this scrumptious shrimp canapé recipe from Leslie Styles’ blog. Caryn Ross also shares a couple of easy-to-make Mardis Gras recipes on her blog, Cooking with Caryn. Follow it up with three or four types of main dish until your guests reach the delicious moon pie dessert or traditional king cake. You don’t have to worry because there’s always room for dessert.

You may be on our own but it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy Valentine’s Day. Here are some home decorating tips to make your home ooze a romantic atmosphere.

Valentine’s Day is an occasion met with a full spectrum of emotions: from excitement to hatred and simply not caring. While many single people tend to express dislike for this day, the truth is, you don’t have to be in a romantic relationship to enjoy Valentine’s Day and neither should you feel sorry for yourself. This day is an occasion to celebrate love and every kind of relationship founded on love, not just romantic ones. One of the ways you can have your own celebration is by sprucing up your home décor to give your guests a warm, fuzzy feeling when they step inside your abode. Here are some simple Valentine décor to consider:

Reds and Pinks

They say red is the color of love, so if there’s any color combination that’s spot on for Valentine’s it’s the full spectrum of red and pink. Bring out or buy a red carpet, hang pink curtains, and protect your dining table with red and pink place mats. You can also add some white accents to soften the effect.

Since Treetopia appreciates what rocks the world of fashion and design, we have gathered some of the top home décor trends that will certainly make your nest the fabulous home it was meant to be.

Crafty Transparent Charms

One of the current trends is to use transparent décor, playing with its appearance to suit your home. It can be as easy as finding the perfect transparent or glass décor or channeling your creative energies to tailor an ornament or object and transform it into a perfectly fitting decoration for your home.

Smart Urban Living

Since more and more people are flocking to the city, living spaces have become smaller. This year, having décor with multiple functions takes center stage. A multi-function shelf that can serve as a room divider, bookshelf, and display cabinet is the perfect way to follow the trend and to maximize the space in your home.

A Feast of Colors

If you want to give your already high spirits an added boost, paint or decorate your home with bold and vivid colors. Bright colors uplift your mood, especially on those long work nights, and keep you upbeat and cheerful when you come home to your private quarters after a night of fabulous partying. You can also match bright colors with geometric patterns or a design that suits your liking. The important part is to make sure that the patterns and colors complement each other.

Treetopia shows you how to create something fabulous out of old Christmas cards

When Thanksgiving ends, the influx of Christmas cards starts to pour in within weeks. Each one is unique in the sense that it contains imprints of those fantastic people whom we hold dear and who took the time to scribble messages to warm our hearts during the chilly Christmas season.  Instead of stuffing all those gorgeous Christmas cards in a box, never knowing when they will be touched by the sun’s rays again, channel your creative energy into preserving those little cards filled with love and sentiments. Treetopia has thought of ways on how you can give your old Christmas cards new life.

Wall of Fame

While we all say that every unique Christmas card is a treasure, it’s impossible not to have a favorite among your collection. Choose an empty area in your home, perhaps a small wall space or at the back of one of your doors, and display all your favorite Christmas cards in that area. You can even purchase a large cork or laminated board where the cards will be tacked or taped if you don’t want to stick the cards directly on your wall. Name this space the Christmas Cards Wall of Fame.

If you want to blend in fabulously this season, decorate your home for Christmas with these themes.

Christmas has long since moved away from the red and green color combination that used to adorn our homes. While some people choose to inject their personality into their holiday decorations, there are many who enjoy following holiday decorating trends. If you’re looking for tips and ideas about what is hot this season, keep reading and Treetopia will show you the way.

Metallic and Pink Christmas Trees

Good news for everyone who loves to grab attention with shiny or startlingly colorful décor, metallic Christmas trees and pink Christmas trees are trending in 2012. You won’t need to put a lot of decorations on your tree when it’s already a stylish centerpiece. Enjoy your time in the spotlight with your shining, shimmering Christmas tree or increase the girly atmosphere in your home this season.

LED Christmas Lights in Cool Colors

One of the most contemporary and refreshing themes this season is using energy-saving LED lights to brighten up both your home and your Christmas tree. It is a triple benefit situation: (1) your home dazzles with the current trend, (2) your home and tree are bright and shiny, and (3) you lessen your energy consumption by using LED lights. It’s a perfect way to celebrate the holiday season.

If you’re stumped about how to style your pencil tree, read below.

When space around your home is scarce but you want to keep the spirit of Christmas alive, set up a space-saving pencil Christmas tree instead of a  fuller, traditional one. For first time owners of pencil trees or those who have tried but were unsuccessful in their attempts to make it look as fabulous as they imagined, Treetopia has gathered some one-of-a-kind tips and tricks to help you make your tree look more amazing.

Simplify

Having over the top, flashy ornaments hanging on your Christmas tree is not always the best option. Sometimes, you have to take the simple route when decorating, especially since conventional decorations associated with traditional Christmas trees do not always look good on pencil trees. You can choose a minimalistic theme in a monochromatic palette and decorate your tree with ornaments of the same color, but in varying degrees of shade, for a polished and modern look.

Go 3-D

Go for a dramatic three-dimensional design scheme with your pencil tree decorations by adding the illusion of depth. Creating depth is actually simple. All you need are ornaments in different sizes and a strategy for layering the ornaments around the tree. Place all the smaller ornaments in the inner portion of the tree, while the larger ones should be in full display. Think of the inner parts of the tree as the farther edge of your line of sight, while the outer part is the plane nearer you.

Hogwarts Halloween

The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling is not just young adult fiction; it is now also a cult classic that even grown-ups can appreciate. Have your guests come as Harry Potter characters, and serve snacks and cocktails like All Flavor Beans and Butter Beer. Place a sign above your door that says, “Platform 9 ¾,” and add an element of surprise by using a Sorting Hat to divide your guests into houses. Organize games such as Muggle Quidditch. The house with the most points at the end of the party gets a prize. You can even set up your house to look like the Leaky Cauldron!
