Coffee Can Lanterns
There are a lot of ways to upcycle empty coffee cans, but turning them into outdoor lanterns might be our favorite. Kate Pruitt of Design Sponge made these rustic coffee can lanterns using a variety of nails and screws, some clamps, and a ball-peen hammer. She calls this project “inexpensive, fun, simple to make and customize.” Find out how you can make your own DIY coffee can lanterns by visiting her blog here.
Easy Washi Tape Luminaries
For an impromptu barbecue or a last-minute outdoor dinner, nothing can be made easier or quicker than these tabletop luminaries. Using patterned washi tape of different colors and lengths, Kelly Oshiro of Santa Barbara Chic was able to add a fresh and lively appeal to plain glass votive holders. These luminaries are perfect even for indoor parties and the technique can be applied on old drinking glasses as well. Check out this post for more photos of Kelly’s washi tape projects.
Aluminum Lanterns and Vases
Courtesy of The Ruffled Blog, these stylish DIY lanterns were made using perforated aluminum sheets, wire, and paint. These tabletop lanterns can be made to suit any decorating theme by simply using different styles of metal sheets or used radiator covers, and your choice of color.
